A man, who it is claimed has access to the personal details of thousands of Charnwood residents via a computer hard drive he bought on eBay, has been urged to return the sensitive data. A major investigation has been launched by Charnwood Borough Council after a national newspaper claimed that the Edinburgh man bought the former council owned hard drive for just £6.99. The information included thousands of residents' bank account numbers, sort codes, names and addresses - enough information say experts to access credit cards and cheque books. Beware of the cat flap burglars

YOU'VE heard of cat burglars - now police are warning residents in and around Loughborough that cat flap burglars are on the prowl.

Homeowners are being urged to make sure burglars cannot get hold of house and car keys through the cat flap, following two recent incidents in the area.

The first happened on August 13, at 5am in Loughborough, when the homeowner disturbed a man trying to reach her door keys through the cat flap. He escaped empty handed.

And at 7am on August 14, police received reports of a house burglary in Quorn, again with a cat flap connection.

The burglar had taken the key out of the inside of the back door by putting his arm though the flap, and used the key to unlock the back door and get into the house.

A flat screen television, laptop computer and a handbag containing bank cards were stolen.

Insp Cathy Yallop, commander of Charnwood local policing unit, said: "Although there is no evidential link between these two incidents, cat flap burglaries are quite rare and to have two in two nights is unusual, so we want to remind homeowners to make sure that their house or car keys are not within easy reach of the cat flap.

"It's best not to keep keys in the lock, store them away from doors in a safe place such as drawer where they cannot be seen."

NASTY COMMENTS IN MY NAME!!!

If some of you read the "Lancaster UAF" website, you may have seen a post on there about Eddy Butler. If you read the comments, there is one left by "me" (Gavin Charnwood BNP secretary). These posts are NOT mine, and if you see any further posts on any site from "me" please do not hold me responsible for the content of them. I have a rough idea who is doing this, and the situation is being monitered closely!

Hopefully there will be no more of these comments in the future.

RED WHITE AND BLUE A GREAT SUCCESS!!!!

As some of you may be aware last weekend was the Red, White and Blue, and despite demonstrations from the far left who tried to stop many people getting to the event, it was still a great success!

'Charnwood' British National Party ran a stall selling sweets along with a balloon race and a wine bottle lucky dip - all of which went down really well. A special thanks to everyone who made the Charnwood stall a great success, especially Maurice for 'bringing in' many of the customers. Overall a great weekend!!

Next year will be the 10th Red, White and Blue and the Charnwood stall will be even bigger and better than ever! This year the East Midlands as a whole was awarded Second Best Regional Stall.

Army Presentation...

On Thursday, 17th July, 2008, I was delighted to have been formally invited by Brigadier J.E.Richardson MBE (Late R Signals) and Commander 49 (East) Brigade, to attend a Reception and Briefing by the Army Presentation Team at Welbeck, The Defence Sixth Form College in Loughborough.

Accompanied by Maurice and Carol Collett, we were given a presentation and update on the recent changes within the Army.

The Army takes it's responsibilities as a public service seriously and the Presentation Team seek to promote awareness and understanding of how the Regular and Territorial Army operate and how it interacts with other sections of society.

The evening started with a drinks reception and continued with the main presentation. This was followed by an opportunity to ask questions in an open forum to the Team and a number of local Army representatives from our local area.

The evening concluded with a finger buffet and an opportunity to chat to any of the military personnel present.

The evening was attended by many influential leaders in the local community and was thoroughly enjoyable and informative too!

The men and women of our Armed Services deserve our whole-hearted support no matter what is asked of them.

Maurice Completes 100 Mile Bike Ride

Congratulations to Maurice Collett who completed his 100 mile sponsored cycle ride from his home in Charnwood to Skegness yesterday (Sunday 6th July). He was joined by Matt at Melton and Nigel at Grantham, the 3 intrepid BNP lads battling their way through driving rain to reach Skegness in just under five and a half hours.

Waiting to greet them at the clock tower were at least 60 activists from all over the East Midlands, cheering them in and waving flags sporting the slogan:"VOTE BNP". They were joined by many local people and holiday-makers, who also took leaflets, and bought papers and flags for their children.

For, beside the sponsored cycle ride, our activists held a paper sale in the centre of the town, as well as leafletting Skegness. A very impressive Day of Action, with 3 different activities, so many involved and lots of money raised towards the Euro fundraising effort.

Afterwards, everyone retired for a well-earned drink and reflections on a job well done.

To which we add "Well done" and thank you to everyone who took part. You can all feel very proud that you contributed to this exciting day. Thanks also go to the sponsors, who have done a grand job of gathering pledges, and to the visitors and residents of Skegness who so readily welcomed the BNP to their historic seaside town.

Message From Cllr Duffy

In May 2007 I was democratically elected a Borough Councillor in Charnwood. It was now my intention to serve the best interests of East Goscote, the community that elected me.

My job as a Borough Councillor is to raise any issues that affect the community directly with the council and work towards resolving them. This could be anything from fine-tuning the details of large scale planning applications to the opening hours of the village pub.

I have a wide range of duties which include representing the interest of the community, whilst taking a broader view of the needs of the Borough as a whole and I participate in the decision making process. The main committees I am a Member of are the Licensing Committee - which includes sub-licensing panels as and when needed, the Regulatory Committee – which involves site visits, and the Performance & Audit Scrutiny Committee – which acts as the Councils “audit committee”. This also includes the approval of the annual Statement on Internal Control, reviewing and monitoring risk management issues. Monitoring performance across the range of Council services and recommending action relating to under performance as well as ensuring that services are performing in support of the front-line.

I am on a couple of Out-Side Bodies one of which is the GCR/Council Liaison panel (Great Central Railway) and these meet a couple of times a year, as well as a substitute for a Liberal Councillor on the Highways Forum. I have to of course attend Full Council at the Town Hall every 6 weeks and the Parish Council once a month.

I have to be accessible to the local people, and which I am via the telephone, post, e-mail, my own council website, the local village magazine, leaflets and of course the open surgeries that I hold on the last Saturday of every month. I also attend any civic functions that arise.

A few days after my election, the Council began to run Induction Courses, which I have found to be extremely helpful. I had initially wondered what kind of reception I would receive, but just held my head high and got on with things. As it turned out the Council Officer’s have been extremely friendly and helpful with any requests or needs I might have had, and have always acted in a friendly and helpful manner towards me.

It has been a real whirl-wind so far since my election last May, especially as Maurice and I were also trying at that time to prepare for our wedding which was to take place the following month! However, on that note, although it was a really wet summer, the sun truly shone for us on ‘our special day’!

I feel blessed and very lucky to have my new role and am again in a position to help those that need help of one sort or another, and am very thankful too for the good working relationship I have with both the Officers of Charnwood Borough Council and the other elected Councillors.

It is my aim to further progress the party in any way that I can.
